| A Grade II listed building
built around 1736, it contains many original
interior features. Occupancy is mixed, with
a recording studio in the basement, retail
at ground floor level, office/studio at first
floor and residential on floors two and three. |
 |
Intervention within the
existing courtyard has been
minimised by placing the necessary accommodation
in a free standing structure independent of
the enclosing buildings with connections made
at each floor level by lightweight, glass
bridge links. These allow natural light to
penetrate the courtyard. |
 |
The geometry of the new
accommodation is skewed
against the existing walls which surround
it, emphasising that this is a separate structure
or object within the ‘container’
that is the courtyard. |
