A Grade II listed building built around 1736, it contains many original interior features. Occupancy is mixed, with a recording studio in the basement, retail at ground floor level, office/studio at first floor and residential on floors two and three.
Intervention within the existing courtyard has been
minimised by placing the necessary accommodation in a free standing structure independent of the enclosing buildings with connections made at each floor level by lightweight, glass bridge links. These allow natural light to penetrate the courtyard.
The geometry of the new accommodation is skewed
against the existing walls which surround it, emphasising that this is a separate structure or object within the ‘container’ that is the courtyard.
