The Gunn Road estate is located in the heart of Swanscombe, an area suffering from relative deprivation and social and economic difficulties. The overall project aim was to improve the physical environment around the Gunn Road estate in order to reduce crime and promote community awareness. The project encouraged community participation in the project. This involved extensive consultation with residents and other interested parties to develop the new layouts and the establishment of a resident steering group to consult with on a regular basis. The client envisaged that this Urban funded project if successful could act as a pilot scheme to be implemented in other estates and housing areas, around the Borough and even nationally.
